Photo Composition for Better Photography
Notes from the Web
Framing
In this case, framing
does not refer to the photo frame, but to the framing that occurs
within the photo. Foreground objects such as arches and doorways
provide a natural frame for the subject or frame interior. Framing
usually improves a picture.
Foreground frames
can
- Direct interest
towards the subject, leading us into the picture.
- Add scale, depth,
and dimension to your photo
- Provide a sense
of where the viewer is
The framing object
does not need to be in focus or even illuminated. If it were, it
might distract the viewer from the intended subject.
Examples of objects
that act as natural frames include trees and their branches, arches,
windows, doors, portholes, canyon walls, and saddles between hilltops.
